Administrative
Support Unit
Greets the public, in person and by
telephone, and guides them to programs and services offered by the
agency. Issues work permits to youths 14 - 17 years old.
Provides clerical services to the agency staff.

placement, etc. Services are provided to adults living in
the community and those living in adult care homes and nursing facilities.

Aid to the Blind
Assists visually impaired individuals with independent living
services which include adjustment to loss of vision, training in
self-help skills and techniques, training in home management,
orientation and mobility instruction, in-home aide services for
individuals who are not capable of living independently,
counseling for the blind to ensure total integration into
environment and community and counseling for their families,
resource and referral.

Medicaid's primary care case management program that
contracts medical providers to deliver and coordinate recipient
health care.

Investigates reports of child abuse,
neglect and dependency. Ongoing services are provided to
families where the need for protective services is confirmed.

Community Alternatives for Disabled Adults
Gives older and disabled adults the option of remaining in
their own homes by preventing or delaying the need for nursing
home placement.

Crisis Intervention
Provides financial assistance for low income families who are
faced with a heating or cooling related crisis. Payments
are made directly to vendors.

Emergency Assistance
Provides a one-time cash payment to families with children
under the age of 21 who are in an emergency situation.

Family and Children's Medicaid
Assists low income families and their minor children with
medical costs.

Family Services
Provides information and determines eligibility for child care assistance
programs. Also, provides information and referral services to families
in need of emergency food, medical transportation, and other financial
assistance programs.

About Food Stamps

Foster Care and Adoptions
Provides services to children living in temporary substitute homes because of abuse, neglect or dependency. Permanency is the goal for these children - either to return to the home they were removed from, custody or guardianship to relatives or adoption. Recruitment and training of foster and adoptive families is also provided.

Volunteer Services
Volunteers - individuals and groups - provide assistance to families
referred by the DSS. Their efforts enable the DSS to serve more
families than could be served through traditional DSS programs. The
volunteers save staff time and resources by providing a variety of services
- transportation, Temporary Emergency Feeding Assistance Program, special
needs of foster children, seniors and families, and clerical assistance in
the agency.
